Saint Days: Vedanayagam Samuel Azariah

Vedanayagam_Samuel_Azariah.jpg

Today in the Church calendar, we remember Vedanayagam Samuel Azariah, who lived from 1874-1945. To many Western Christians, he may not be very well known but he was the very first Indian bishop in the Anglican Communion. He also led the National Christian Council of India, Burma, and Ceylon.

Bishop Azariah is an excellent reminder of the important of missions. The purpose of the Gospel is to reach all people and all nations!

Let us pray with Bishop Azariah in mind today:

Almighty and everlasting God, we thank you for your servant Bishop Vedanayagam Samuel Azariah, whom you called to preach the Gospel to the people of India; raise up in this and every land evangelists and heralds of your kingdom, that your Church may proclaim the unsearchable riches of our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
