Saint Days: Saint Vincent of Sargossa, Deacon and Martyr
St. Vincent of Sargossa grew up in Sargossa, Spain where he was taught and ordained by Bishop Valerius who also commissioned him to preach.
Unfortunately, the Roman Emperor Diocletian began persecuting Christians in Spain and Vincent was thrown in prison. The Romans offered him freedom if he would burn the Holy Scriptures. He refused, which brought intense torture and eventually resulted in his death.
Let us pray to the Lord with St. Vincent in mind:
Almighty God, who gave to your servant Vincent of Sargossa boldness to confess the Name of our Savior Jesus Christ before the rulers of this world, and courage to die for this faith: Grant that we may always be ready to give a reason for the hope that is in us, and to suffer gladly for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
