Saint Days: Brigid, Abbess of Kildaire
St Brigid lived in Ireland from 451-525. She was a nun, abbess and founder of several monasteries, including one at Kildaire which was built on the site of a shrine to the pagan cultic goddess who shared her name. She was also friends with St. Patrick, an influential missionary to the Irish people. It's thought St. Patrick may have been the one who converted her parents.
Let us remember St. Brigid in our prayers today:
O God, whose blessed Son became poor that we through his poverty might be rich: Deliver us from an inordinate love of this world, that we, inspired by the devotion of your servant St. Brigid may serve you with singleness of heart, and attain to the riches of the age to come; through Jesus Christ our lord; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
