Saint Days: Josephine Butler, Renewer of Society
Josephine Butler lived from 1828-1906. She was an English social reformer who stood up for the rights of women during the heavily male-dominated Victorian era. She found against dehumanization by defending the victims of human trafficking and also advocated for the rights of women to vote.
Let us remember Josephine Butler today in our prayers:
Almighty and everlasting God, who kindled the flame of your love in the heart of your servant Josephine Butler to manifest your compassion and mercy on the poor and the persecuted; Grant to us, your humble servants, a like faith and power of love, that we who give thanks for his righteous zeal may profit by his example; through Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
