Saint Days: Thomas a Kempis, Priest and Teacher of the Faith

Thomas a Kempis lived from 1380-1471. He was born in Germany but served most of his life in the Netherlands. He was ordained to Holy Orders in 1413 and made a sub-prior in 1420. Over the course of his life, he was a copyist and writer. He is most well-known for his wonderful book The Imitation of Christ, a must own according to Thomas More. Here is a beautiful except from that:

"Without the Way, there is no going.
Without the Truth, there is no knowing.
Without the Life, there is no living."

Let us remember Thomas a Kempis in our prayers:

Almighty God, you gave to your servant Thomas a Kempis special gifts of grace to understand and teach the truth as it is in Christ Jesus: Grant that by this teaching we may know you, the one true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
