Saint Days: Clare, Abbess of Assisi

St. Clare lived from 1194-1253. She was born in Assisi where she led a pious life devoted to prayer. At age 18, she heard Francis preach during Lent. She left her family to follow him and refused marriage in favor of life of poverty. Her life of faith is an inspiration to all Christians. Her last words show her dedication to her faith, saying, "Blessed be You, O God, for having created me."

Let's remember Clare in our prayers:

O God, whose blessed Son became poor that we through his poverty might be rich: Deliver us from an inordinate love of this world, that we, inspired by the devotion of your servant Clare may serve you with singleness of heart, and attain to the riches of the age to come; through Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
