Saint Days: Aidan, Abbot, Bishop, and Missionary

Unknown.jpg

Aidan was a seventh century Irish monk who brought Christianity back to Northumbria. The Christian religion had declined there because of an increase in paganism.

King Oswald of Northumbria was a Christian and he requested a bishop be sent to evangelize his people.

Aidan was consecrated in 635 and moved to Lindisfarne which became the base of his operations. He was known for using relationship as a means of evangelism and experienced much success.

Let us remember St. Aidan in our prayers today:

Almighty and everlasting God, we thank you for your servant N., whom you called to preach the Gospel to the people of Northumbria; raise up in this and every land evangelists and heralds of your kingdom, that your Church may proclaim the unsearchable riches of our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
