Saint Days: Oswald, King of Northumbria and Martyr
King Oswald was born in 604 and lived until around 642. As king, he united the Northumbria which had been divided into two separate kingdoms. Once he was the ruler, he requested that the Church send a bishop to proselytize his people. They sent Aidan, who successfully proclaimed the Gospel with Oswald often acting as his interpreter. Without Oswald, it's hard to imagine the Church in England taking as strong a hold in the land without the actions of Oswald!
