Saint Days: Dominic, Priest and Friar
Saint Dominic (1170-1221) was a Spanish priest and friar. In 1191, while he was a student, Spain was struck with famine. Dominic responded by selling his possessions to help the poor, living in poverty. Three years later, he joined the Augustinian order. In 1215, he moved to the city Toulous with six monks to do ministry and preach the Gospel, eventually establishing the Dominican Order.
Let us remember St. Dominic in our prayers:
Almighty God, you have surrounded us with a great cloud of witnesses: Grant that we, encouraged by the good example of your servant St. Dominic, may persevere in running the race that is set before us, until at last we may with him attain to your eternal joy; through Jesus Christ, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
